Empowers Women

Zonta Club of New York celebrated its 100th Anniversary and Honors Monica Morales with the Distinguished Women of the Year Award

  • Zonta Club of New York celebrated its 100th Anniversary on Monday, March 6, 2023, at The District Restaurant at 1679 Third Ave at 94th Street.    Many distinguished guests including Ute Scholz, President of Zonta International and the Zonta International Foundation and other members from the Zonta International Board and from Clubs around the world were in attendance.  Ute reminded all the Zontians and others in attendance that Zonta is a “human rights organization”.  It is also a place I call “ home” she said, and Ute hopes other women will as well.

In addition, the Club presented its Distinguished Woman of the Year Award to Monica Morales of PIX 11 News New York.  This award is given by the Club each year to a woman whose advocacy and service interactions are exemplary and in alignment with the Zonta mission.   Monica was honored and delighted to participate in the festivities.

Elisabeth Shuman, Club President stated that this event occurred during the Commission for the Status of Women held at the UN.

It has been a participant for many years with UN projects and specifically CSW, both hosting events and partnering with other organizations.

Zonta Club of New York was chartered in May 1923.  Amelia Earhart was one of its most noted members, and in whose name a Zonta International scholarship is given each year. The New York Club has hosted two of the Zonta International conventions.  As you can see from the photos everyone enjoyed the celebration!

    As told by the attendees:

“Thank you!  Congratulations on 100 years! We had a wonderful time.”

“Thank you for including our club of New Rochelle in the celebration of your 100th year Zonta Club of New York.  It was a lovely and inspiring event.”

“It was such a wonderful evening celebrating with you and many fellow Zontians  your centennial anniversary! I enjoyed this evening so much!”

“It was a wonderful evening and a lovely event. Happy 100th anniversary!”
